Spreading the Word about Literacy — through Blogs

I am delighted that three people responded to my challenge to blog about literacy. Not only did that earn them an extra entry in my giveaway of Emma Walton Hamilton’s book Raising Bookworms, but it reached more people with an important message. One person posted (different posts) on both her blogs!

I want to give a shout-out to those people who blogged about literacy this week. If there are others whom I’ve missed, please let me know in the comments, and I’ll add your link to this post (and your entry to the barrel!)

And it’s not too late – it’s always time to talk about getting children (and adults) to love reading, and if you post (and let me know) either today, Saturday January 28, 2012, or tomorrow Sunday January 29, 2012, you’ll get another chance at the giveaway.

Thank you to

Heather Provan, who posted about ways to interest kids in reading on

Write of Way

Rena Traxel, who posted about her early struggles with reading on

Rena J. Traxel

and Melissa Gijsbers Khalinsky, who posted about boys and reading on

Melissa Writes

and who also posted, about giving books as baby gifts (great idea!), on

My Daggy Life

Edited to Add:  Apologies to Mona Pease, who also blogged about this giveaway and about literacy on two blogs. Here’s one:

What do you suggest as a way to encourage kids (or adults) to find joy in reading?

    1. I’ll have to see if it’s happening in my city. Thanks for the alert that the application deadline has been extended!

EDITED TO ADD: I’ve just checked, and it’s only in the UK, Ireland and the US. Too bad! It sounds like such an excellent way to get books to people.
