12×12 Shout-Outs and the I’M BORED Winner!

I’m excited about today’s post for two reasons. One, I get to announce the winner of the giveaway I held on my blog last week, and two, I’m highlighting the accomplishments of several members of our 12×12 in 2012 community.

First of all, let’s see who won the copy of Michael Ian Black and Debbie Ridpath Ohi’s fabulous new picture book, I’M BORED. There’s an exciting bonus for the winner — Debbie has announced that winners of the books given away on blog posts such as mine (and many others) will also receive a hand-drawn doodle from Debbie herself. That is so generous — thank you, Debbie, on behalf of the winner.

And now… the suspense is mounting… the drumroll sounds… I’m reaching my hand into the random.org site to draw a number… and the winner is

DARSHANA KHIANI!

Congratulations, Darshana! I know you will enjoy both the book and your hand-drawn Debbie-Doodle.

Now — on to what some of my fellow 12×12-ers are anticipating.

There are several books, ebooks, apps, and anthologies featuring either the writing or illustrating talents (or both) of some members of 12×12 in 2012 coming out in the very near future. If I have missed anyone, I apologize — please let me know in the comments, and I’ll amend my post. I haven’t listed past publications, this is just to let you know what’s coming soon.

Get out your list-making equipment, you’re going to want to write this down. Potential holiday/birthday/any-day gifts abound in this list. Alphabetically by surname:

Romelle Broas:  picture book in ebook format, entitled Casey Chameleon, illustrated by Lydia F. Ferron, publisher Flying Books, release date TBA (soon!)

Tracey Cox: picture book in both print and ebook format, entitled Angels Do That, illustrated by Marina Movshina, publisher Guardian Angels Publishing, available through Guardian Angels Bookstore. It was just released two weeks ago.

Tracey has another picture book coming out sometime this year, entitled Arachnabet. Sounds like a good “bet” for spider fanciers big and small!

Amy Dixon: picture book in print format, entitled Marathon Mouse, illustrated by Sam Denlinger, publisher Skyhorse Publishing. Marathon Mouse is due to be published October 16, 2012 — in time for the New York Marathon — and is available for pre-order now.

Carrie Finison: has a poem included in the anthology And The Crowd Goes Wild!: A Global Gathering of Sports Poems, published very recently by Friesen Press, and available through the publisher. Note: a portion of the sale of each book goes to Right to Play. Quoting from the Right to Play website, their mission is “To improve the lives of children in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world by using the power of sport and play for development, health and peace.”

Julie Fulton: picture book in print format, the second in a series, entitled Tabitha Posy Was Ever So Nosy, illustrated by Jona Jong, publisher Maverick Books. Tabitha Posy will be released on February 1, 2013, but is available for pre-order on Amazon in the UK, and will be available through Amazon in the US as well.

Julie’s first book in this series, Mrs. MacCready Was Ever So Greedy is available in print format in shops and on Amazon, and is now available in ebook format for Nook!

Julie Hedlund: (the originator and leader of 12×12 in 2012) has an interactive picture book app for iPad being released in December, entitled A Troop is a Group of Monkeys. Illustrated by Kristen Gjerdset and published by Little Bahalia Publishing, watch for it in the iPad App Store.

Alison Hertz: picture book in print format, entitled FLAP! for which Alison is both author and illustrator, publisher Weaving Dreams Publishing. FLAP! is due to fly into bookstores and online sources on November 15, 2012.

Catherine Johnson: also has a poem included in the anthology And The Crowd Goes Wild!: A Global Gathering of Sports Poems.

Another poem of Catherine’s will be published in an anthology entitled Island Wonders, by the Poetry Institute of Canada, in January 2013.

Donna Martin: has been notified that a story of hers, The Road Less Traveled,  will be included in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Angels Among Us, due to be released January 1, 2013, in paperback, Nook, and Kindle formats.

Heather Newman: illustrated the book French Toast for Maleek, written by Amy Carpenter Leugs and published this month by the Open Door Press, the United Church Outreach Ministry’s press. This ministry “values individuals and builds community in southwestern Kent County (Michigan)”. Quoting Heather, “French Toast for Maleek is presented in both English and Spanish. It’s the story of a loving, connected family who are part of the working poor in this country (USA). The book follows a day in the life of the youngest of two brothers explaining what his experience with hunger looks and feels like.” This project was a labor of love to benefit the Outreach Ministry, and can be purchased through the Ministry’s website.

Ellen Ramsay: is another of our 12×12 group to have a poem included in the anthology And The Crowd Goes Wild!: A Global Gathering of Sports Poems.

Corey Rosen Schwartz: picture book entitled The Three Ninja Pigs, illustrated by Dan Santat, pubisher Penguin. The Three Ninja Pigs will be Ki-Ya’ing their way into bookstores and online sources on September 27, 2012.

Eric VanRaepenbusch: all of Eric’s Three Ghost Friends series of picture books will soon be available in print as well as in ebook format. They are currently available as ebooks through iTunes as well as through amazon for Kindle, and will soon be available in print format through amazon.com as well as on Eric’s website.

It is so wonderful to see so many colleagues succeeding in such a variety of platforms and formats. Congratulations to you all!

  5. Wonderful line-up! As I was about to write ‘toi, toi, toi!’ I thought I’d better relate it’s origins, and I learned something quite interesting: it’s the onomatopoeic rendition of spitting three times. Spitting three times over someone’s head or shoulder is a gesture to ward off evil spirits. – Standard Dictionary of Folklore, Myth & Legend.
