I decided to split the look back at August and look forward to September posts this month. We’ll look back tomorrow. We’re looking forward today. (Don’t spend too much time considering the logic of that. I don’t want you to do yourself an injury.)
As you know if you’ve been around my blog over the summer, there have been a few changes in format and in content of posts. I hope you’ll find the changes to your liking.
So get on with it, Beth! What’s coming up?
First of all, a word about the GIVEAWAY of a copy of Emma Walton Hamilton’s book Raising Bookworms. Any comment on any post during the month of August has given you an entry into the draw (unless you’ve told me you already have a copy). I had planned to announce the winner on September 10th, but because of something else that’s coming up on September 10th, I have changed the date of the announcement and the winner will be revealed on Monday, September 3rd.
On Wednesday, September 5th, I will be launching a new series that will run on Wednesdays through September, October and part of November. The series will be called Waiting in the Wings. The posts in September will be brief teasers, just meant to tantalize you and raise your anticipation for the meatier posts that will come in October and November. I’ve had a lot of fun putting these teaser posts together, and hope you’ll have some fun as each one is revealed.
On Friday, September 7th, we begin a new season of Perfect Picture Book Fridays, and I’ll be kicking off by featuring a book that will be hot off the presses (just being released on September 4th! My copy had better arrive in time!) — I’m Bored by Michael Ian Black, illustrated by Debbie Ridpath Ohi, a Canadian illustrator and online friend. (The video has to be one of the best I’ve ever seen, and Zoe has a great future in theatre, should she be so inclined!)
Then, on Monday, September 10th, I’m delighted to be able to say that Debbie Ohi herself will be my guest on the blog, doing a guest post and a GIVEAWAY of one copy of her new (and FIRST!) book, I’m Bored. Anyone who comments on that post will be entered in the giveaway. The winner will be announced the following Monday, September 17th.
Now… have you heard about International Dot Day? It’s a worldwide celebration of creativity, based on Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot. International Dot Day is celebrated on September 15th-ish. (You need to familiarize yourself with Peter’s book Ish to understand the significance of those three letters.) Schools all over the world are becoming involved, with children creating their own Dots of all sorts and sizes — and an elementary school librarian has come up with an exciting way to Connect the Dots. Authors are involved, and are submitting their own Celebri-dots. And over on Pat Tilton’s blog, Children’s Books Heal, TJ Shay (International Dot Day Ambassador) and Pat have issued a challenge to all KidLit Bloggers to create and post a Dot on September 15th-ish. I will be posting my Dot on Thursday, September 13th which is ish enough for me!
Finally, you may have read my post in which I explained that I am letting go of my old blog, elizabethannewrites. It had been functioning only as an archive since I started this blog in early January of this year. So that not all the posts from that blog are lost, I will be reposting some of them to this blog on the weekends. You need feel no obligation to read or comment on these blogs, especially if you’ve already read them on the old blog. I simply needed a way to lodge them here, before “there” disappears. So that will begin on Saturdays in September. Those posts will be clearly marked “From the Archives” and will be categorized as “Looking Back and Moving Forward” so there should be no confusion between new posts and old posts.
I’m looking forward to the new season — September first always seems like the new year to me — and I hope you’ll enjoy what I have in store.

I totally encourage you to participate in Dot Day. Peter would be the first one to say that of course you are clever enough to make a Dot — that’s the whole point of Dot and Ish, that everyone can make their own kind of art. Go for it, Susanna!

You have quite a bit coming up. Sounds very busy and very fulfilling.
I’ll certainly have to familiarize myself with The Dot and Ish. Both sound very interesting.
The Dot and Ish are wonderful books, and the third book in Peter’s “creatrilogy” has just been released, Sky Color, which I’ll be featuring on September 14th for PPBF, all being well.

If you don’t have access to a scanner when Dot Day comes around, I think photo’s your best bet. Glad you’re going to give it a whirl!
Sounds like an interesting few months for you. Look forward to the new series and the review of “I’m Bored.” No doubt you are very organized. Thanks for giving another mention about International Dot Day. I’m artistically challenged, but still plan to give it a go. You can take a photograph of your entry and download or scan it. Also thought about using iPad to create a Dot. It doesn’t have to be perfect. 🙂
I’m looking forward to seeing your Dot, Pat. I plan to scan mine. I have a couple of ideas, and will see what works best. Who knows, maybe my post will have several dots — I could be completely dotty!
I am so looking forward to the return of PPBF. My blog has been on the back burner since school started. I’ve been devoting so much time to my freelance gig and trying to write some leveled readers. I need a good kick start. Bring on Sept. 7th!
